Improved Whiskey Cocktail

An elevated take on the Old Fashioned, this cocktail enhances rye whiskey with maraschino, absinthe, and a duo of bitters for a sophisticated, spirit-forward experience.
Ingredients
- 2 oz Rye Whiskey
- 0.25 oz Maraschino Liqueur
- 0.25 tsp Absinthe
- 0.25 oz Simple Syrup
- 2 dashes Angostura Bitters
- 1 dash Orange Bitters
- 1 Lemon Peel (optional)
Method
- If using absinthe rinse, swirl absinthe in a chilled rocks glass and discard excess; otherwise, add 0.25 tsp to the mixing glass.
- Combine rye whiskey, maraschino liqueur, simple syrup, Angostura bitters, and orange bitters in a mixing glass with ice.
- Stir until well-chilled, about 30 seconds.
- Strain into the prepared rocks glass over a large ice cube.
- Express the oils from a lemon peel over the drink and drop it in as garnish.
